Adjusting to a country that is not yours yet

1 minute readEnglish

The particular tiredness of rebuilding a life somewhere new, and why it often arrives later than people expect.

The hardest period after moving is frequently not the first months. It arrives later, once the practical work is done and the loss underneath it becomes visible.

People describe it as a kind of low-level fatigue that does not resolve with rest — the effort of being slightly foreign in every ordinary interaction.

It is a common reason people come to therapy, and it is not a sign that the move was a mistake.
